After an exciting, interesting and lively conference week, we are happy to share the results, experiences and learnings with you on our new website!

sbe22 Berlin D-A-CH conference
Built Environment within Planetary Boundaries

sbe22 Berlin was an international scientific conference organized by TU Berlin, ETH Zürich, TU Graz and KIT Karslruhe that took place in September 2022 in Berlin. The conference adressed important and contemporary topics concerning the sustainable built environment within planetary boundaries.

We have put together a short video in which we look back at the sbe22berlin and give you a glimpse behind the curtain. For the video, we interviewed the organisers, participants and students and collected their different perspectives. We are looking forward to hearing your perspective on the conference! Feel free to leave a comment on our YouTube account in the comment section.

We are pleased to welcome you to our new website. The conference is now somewhat in the past and we have used the time to summarise the diverse and exciting results and events here for you. For us as an organising team, the conference was marked by many great encounters, by new and interesting collaborations, by challenges and by an impressive community dealing with our planetary boundaries and our built environment within.

Our new website offers the opportunity to get a glimpse behind the scenes, at the same time collecting and preserving all presented and published papers of the conference - those of the main conference, as well as those of the Student Conference, and making them available. In this way, we want to ensure that the valuable results are prepared for an interested specialist audience and are thus available to a broader mass. In addition, the student works should also be given a platform and scientific students should be given the opportunity to present their results.

The video of sbe22berlin shows the organisation, the implementation and the process of planning, which began one and a half years before the conference. In order not to leave the topic of the conference merely on a theoretical, scientific level, it was very important for us to organise a conference that uses as few new materials as possible, consumes as little CO2 as possible and reflects the change that must and will inevitably happen in our society today. This can be seen, for example, in the exhibition, which was largely built from scrap wood, in the reuse of furniture produced for the conference, in the vegetarian or vegan tasting at the conference and much more. We hope to have given a positive impetus to future conferences and to be a small step closer to a shift towards circular thinking.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants once again. We can look back on an imaginative, scientific conference. Special thanks also go to the students who participated in our Student Conference and brought their visionary projects from the university context into a scientific context. Great thanks also go to our sponsors, without whom the conference would not have been possible. To be mentioned here are: BBSR, iisbe, CCC, ZukunftBau, ...

See you at the next sbe conference!

Numbers

Our confernce was attended by 322 participants from 29 countries around the world! In total 146 papers and 15 papers of the student conference were presented at the conference and published.

With the following numbers and statsitics we want to give a short overview of the general statistics of the conference regarding participants, published papers and gender equality and diversity.

We are very happy to announce that more women took part in the conference in their roles as scientists, in committees or in the organization teams as the standard average in the building sector. However, we see there is still a gap regarding gender visibility, for example on stage or in leading positions in scientific committees.
